About him

Nikhil is a graduate of the National Law Institute University, Bhopal. He holds an experience of working as a Senior Associate in the Dispute Resolution Team of Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas, in its Delhi-NCR office. Nikhil holds advisory and litigation experience.

He specializes in civil, commercial disputes / advisory, media and entertainment litigation, insolvency law, general corporate, white-collar crime (including criminal appellate side), constitutional law, environment law etc. He has advised and represented leading industrial groups including Godrej Group, Adani Port Ltd., Board of Control for Cricket in India, JSW Steel Ltd., IL&FS Group and its subsidiaries, JP Morgan, The New Yorker, Max Group, Zomato, CG Power, among others.

He has been involved in drafting of various pleadings and advisories, filing of pleadings, briefing eminent senior advocates and appearing before various courts and tribunal. His involvement in such high-stake matters proves his experience in dealing with high valued litigation.

Nikhil regularly appears and argues before the Supreme Court, Delhi High Court, Bombay High Court, Consumer Courts, National Company Law Appellate Tribunal, various benches of the National Company Law Tribunal, various district courts, high courts. Representative Matters
  • Extensively worked on the defence against a money recovery suit and an execution proceeding initiated against top management of the Godrej group in the Patiala House Court.
  • Represented the New Yorker in a civil defamation suit initiated against them in the Saket District Court.
  • Represented IL&FS Transportation Networks Limited in a contractual dispute (involving section 70 of the Indian Contract Act) in the Delhi High Court.
  • Represented and worked on a Section 7 IBC case on behalf of Bhushan Power and Steel Limited before the National Law Company Tribunal and consequent proceeding in National Law Company Appellate Tribunal.
  • Worked on a section 482 CrPC petition seeking quashing of Section 138 NI Act summonses issued to certain directors of CG Power Ltd. Also worked on a connected civil suit (original side) filed on behalf of CG Power Ltd., in the Delhi High Court seeking the relief that the post-dated cheques be declared void ab-initio.

Advising and representing Samrat Cinematics before Hon’ble Bombay High Court against Central Board of Film Certification with regard to certification of the film “Ajey: The Untold Story of a Yogi”. The Hon’ble Bombay High Court was pleased to watch the movie itself and thereafter, paved the way for its release in theatres without any modifications/cuts.

Advising and representing seafarers / merchant navy officers before Hon’ble Bombay High Court wherein a circular of Directorate General of Shipping was challenged by virtue of which thousands of seafarers holding foreign certifications were rendered jobless. We also secured a favorable stay order from the Hon’ble Bombay High Court lifting the blanket ban on the seafarers.

Represented JP Morgan before the Supreme Court in an alleged contempt of court petition matter filed by a private party in a labour law dispute; got a favourable order of dismissal of such petition.getting various reliefs and concessions for it.

  • Represented and worked on a FEMA matter in the Foreign Exchange Appellate Tribunal on behalf of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) involving alleged violation of FEMA provisions relating to foreign exchange in hosting of IPL 2009 in South Africa.
  • Worked on an oppression and mismanagement dispute under the Companies Act before NCLT – representing the Max group.
  • Represented and extensively worked on a securities law dispute matter on behalf of the IL&FS group in the Supreme Court.
  • Represented and extensively worked on a section 156(3) CrPC case in the Karkardooma District Court – represented IL&FS Securities Services Limited (ISSL)
  • Represented and worked on a 482 CrPC petition filed on behalf of ISSL in the Delhi High Court against on order refusing to register an FIR under section 156(3) of CrPC
  • Worked on a NGT matter on behalf of JSW (Jindal Steel Works) Ltd., involving alleged environment damage and issues around environment clearance.
  • Represented and worked on a NGT appeal before the Supreme Court – on behalf of Indian Hotels Company Limited which is a respondent to the said appeal; the matter involves issues around alleged environmental concerns around reconstruction of Hotel Sea Rock in Bandra, Mumbai.
  • Represented and worked on a matter in the Supreme Court, on behalf of Grandview Estates Ltd., in a liquidation estate matter under the Old Companies Act, 1956 and Sick Industrial Companies Act, 1985, wherein payment of adequate compensation to certain class of workers was disputed.
  • Represented and worked on a constitutional law matter in the Supreme Court in a writ petition seeking coverage of gig workers under the existing social security laws – on behalf of Zomato, who is a party respondent to the writ.
  • Represented and worked on a land estates matter in the Supreme Court on behalf of Rousdonmullai Estate specifically relating to the Janmam Esates Act 1969; also worked on a matter relating to issue of grant of ryotwari patta in the Madras High Court on behalf of Rousdonmullai Estate.

Advised and represented various builders before various consumer courts including the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.

  • Worked extensively on drafting various communications and agreement/ side agreements on behalf of Dhamra LNG Terminal Pvt. Ltd. (Owned by Adani Group) – inter alia relating to extension of timelines for commissioning, force majeure, liquidated damages etc.
  • Advising TapGro (a startup) on its legal compliances and various company restructuring processes. >
  • Advised leading US companies on product liability laws.
  • Advised companies on stamp duty charges and its inter-state implications particularly when an interstate amalgamation is proposed.
